Fortified Medieval Church in Transylvania

Fortified Medieval Church in Transylvania by Dora Hathazi Mendes

There are some magical places in Romania, I had the pleasure to spend 4,5 years in this country, and was touched several times by places I never forget.

Fortified Mediaeval Church in Transylvania, is a ecoline painting about a historical church located in Sibiu county, (Cristian / Grossau / Keresztenysziget) in Transylvania, Romania. The settlement was first mentioned in written document in 1223, and the ancient church was built in the 13th century in the middle of the village, and got its present gothic style in the 15th century. The castle surrounding fortification was intended the protect the inhabitants from the assaults of the Turks, last time at 1658 unsuccessful, when the entire population of the village was massacred. The bright colors of the church is the result of my artistic touch and imagination, not representing the reality.
